Process Mill

The processing mill project was an 8,107 square-metre concrete and steel structure built at TMAC Resources’ Hope Bay site, in the Kitikmeot region of Nunavut in northern Canada. Work preparations and initial breaking of ground began in early 2015. Our team members were involved from the beginning – working with excavation crews and engineers, lancing and preparing the site for the construction of footings and foundations.

Over the next eighteen months, our team built the formwork, laid the rebar, produced, placed and finished the concrete for the entirety of the structure, totaling just under 4500 cubic meters. Throughout the course of the project, a high degree of coordination with other departments and proactive cross-trade communication was required to meet our completion milestone. We finished this phase of the project in September 2016, well within the constraints of a tight deadline and under budget.

 

The process mill is up and running steady and our team continues to provide services in the mining industry. We pride ourselves on overcoming the challenges of working in a harsh, remote location and we look forward to reaching out and growing our business in new districts.

 

Working in the Arctic presents a host of challenges: extreme cold weather during winter months and the remoteness of the site requires coordinated planning, estimating, ingenuity, dedication and perseverance. Our versatile team has adapted well to this climate, having developed several techniques to maximize production in cold weather environments. Heating and hoarding tents and Quonset huts provide protection from the elements and engineered concrete with the correct additives allow for a product that can endure the heavy swings in temperature from summer to winter.
