YEAR 2018
The “South” Dam was a Geosynthetic Clay Liner system constructed in two sections, the key trench and the above ground liner. The trench was completed in permafrost during the winter months while above ground construction of the dam followed in early spring. Blomberg industries oversaw slope preparation, transportation, storage and handling of geosynthetics, installation of the liner, and initial backfill operations.
The dam was executed with earthworks contractors which aided in the deployment of liner by providing cranes and excavators. By working vigorously with the engineering team, we were able to problem-solve and find corrective actions for any unforeseen factors in the planning stages. The project’s success was highlighted not only by producing a high-quality product, but also by maintaining zero harm for the duration of construction.
Paramount to operating safely, we maintained a high degree of communication with all parties involved. The dam was a high traffic area with various machinery, and vehicle traffic operating constantly. By forecasting deployment schedules with blasting, clearing and earthmoving teams we were able to ensure the safety of all employees and maximize production
